What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

Why do we need a User Researcher like you?

As a User Researcher, you will put user needs at the centres of our thinking as we improve our systems for millions users. You’ll be planning and designing research programmes that will inform the products and services we develop.

You’ll work closely with users and agile delivery teams to test both broad concepts and detailed service elements, ensuring that research findings are clearly communicated, understood, and translated into practical, actionable recommendations.

We need a champion of user-centred design and core research principles. You’ll help build a shared understanding of user needs across teams and stakeholders, influencing design decisions and driving improvements in service delivery.

You’ll also help our product teams to collaborate, guiding them in interpreting research insights and maintaining a strong focus on user experience throughout the development lifecycle.

Your work will shape services that are inclusive, effective, and aligned with the needs of the people who use them.

Location: You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model – you’ll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £46,547.

Pension: You’ll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £12,876 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 25 days rising to 30 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You’ll also get all the usual public holidays.

As a User Researcher, you will ensure our services meet users’ needs by leading in-depth research on how people interact with them. At every step of the journey, you will be vital to informing, testing and supporting projects and will work with a huge range of engaged parties across Ofgem and beyond to make sure our solutions are the best they can possibly be, and user-centred thinking is at the heart of our decision-making.

We’re looking for someone with professional experience as a User Researcher, working alongside User Centred Design disciplines. You should have experience influencing and engaging stakeholders, including sceptical colleagues, and be confident in conducting inclusive research to ensure services meet the needs of all users. The ability to select and apply the right qualitative and quantitative research methods to deliver meaningful insights is essential.
