We have an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled and certified AWS Solutions Architect to design, deliver, and optimize secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions. This role requires strong expertise in the AWS Well-Architected Framework, modern architecture patterns (serverless, containers, microservices), API and UI security, and hybrid/multi-cloud networking.

Key Responsibilities:
* Cloud Solution Design & Security
o Define and implement cloud-native solutions (serverless, containerized, microservices, hybrid/multi-cloud).
o Build highly available, resilient, and secure architectures aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
o Apply layered defenses with AWS WAF, CloudFront, NACLs, and Security Groups.
o Experienced in creating secured networking between OnPrem and cloud applications.
* API Architecture & Security
o Architect APIs using AWS API Gateway, ensuring robust security and performance.
o Implement mTLS-secured connections and certificate-based authentication.
o Secure public and private APIs with appropriate authentication strategies.
o Integrate Azure AD authentication with distinct models for public and private systems.
* UI & SPA Hosting
o Design and host Single Page Applications (SPA) built on Angular using S3 for static hosting and CloudFront for global content delivery and caching.
o Ensure SPAs are optimized for security, scalability, and high availability.
o Integrate UI with backend APIs following secure authentication and authorisation flows.
* Architecture Governance & Compliance
o Produce High-Level Architecture (HLA) documents for approval in enterprise forums.
o Use LeanIX to model enterprise-level integrations and flows (application/integration inventories, interface catalogs, capability maps, data flows, roadmaps) and keep HLA artefacts, risks and ownership current.
o Ensure adherence to FCA regulations, GDPR, HRB documentation, DPIAs, and Data Governance frameworks.
o Embed GDPR compliance within governance and design processes, ensuring privacy by design and data protection by default.
o Drive AWS cost optimization by selecting efficient services, applying right-sizing, implementing serverless/autoscaling and leveraging cost monitoring tools.
o Work closely with business architects, auditors, and regulators to align solutions with governance standards.
* Cross-Team Collaboration & Delivery Enablement
o Collaborate with development, testing, and business teams to ensure architectures are implementable, testable, and aligned with requirements.
o Provide architectural guidance and mentorship on AWS services, design patterns, and security best practices.
* Monitoring & Observability
o Integrate observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus) for monitoring and troubleshooting.
o Define KPIs, dashboards, and automated alerting to ensure operational excellence.

Key Skills & Experience:
* AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional).
* Strong expertise in the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
* Advanced knowledge of AWS services: API Gateway, CloudFront, WAF, VPC, Lambda, EKS, Fargate, S3.
* Proven experience hosting Single Page Applications (SPA) (e.g., Angular) on S3 + CloudFront.
* Expertise in API security (mTLS, cert-based authentication, Azure AD integration).
* Experience producing HRB documents, DPIAs, and data governance documentation.
* Strong focus on GDPR compliance and regulatory adherence within governance.
* Proven ability to collaborate with development, testing, business teams, and regulators.
* Strong Pensions domain knowledge
* Good understanding of martek integration

This is a new and exclusive opportunity for a Solution Architect to join a thriving Banking client in Bristol as they expand their Software Solution Architecture team.

• Location: Bristol – 2 or 3 days in the office and 2 days home working hybrid

This is a great time to join as the bank are investing heavily in their software architecture platform. We’re keen to move towards our target state with a cloud first (private and public) approach in our hosting strategy and to transform our systems from monolith to microservices whilst decommissioning our legacy estate.

The business area is lending, focused specifically on lending, loans and cards so any experience in this area would be useful.

As an experienced Solution Architect, you’ll work collaboratively alongside other Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects, Product Owners and Engineering team within platform. To help us define and design solution architecture that unlocks and builds opportunities to deliver excellent customer journeys and business outcomes, whilst meeting our strategic goals.

What we need from you:

We need a Solution Architect who understands the challenges of modern architecture and builds a compelling strategic vision and will understand a wide array of technology implications including people and process, bringing this to your integrated view of design.

Experience we’re looking for:

• Experience as a solution architect
• Business knowledge of lending, focused specifically on lending, loans and cards so any experience in this area would be useful.
• Experience in digital solutions and/ or software digital development projects
